The Parkwood Sharks Rugby League Club is one of four Gold Coast community groups who have so far benefited from Homeworld Helensvale’s Community Chest program, which will donate $14,000 to local causes this financial year.
Steve Johnston from The Parkwood Sharks advised the donation would be used to purchase a long wheelbase golf cart for transporting equipment and first aid transportation for injured players.
“Like the majority of junior sporting clubs, we rely heavily on the commitment of volunteers to make every game possible.
“Our fields need to be set up by 6.30am and volunteers carry everything from trestle tables and gazebos to first aid equipment, eskies and chairs across the fields and then return to the store room at the day’s end.
“Having a golf cart at our disposal will make moving that equipment so much easier but even more importantly, will allow us to safely and comfortably transport any injured players across the fields to ambulances.
“At a cost of $3,500 the cart was not within our budget so we are so grateful for the funding that Homeworld’s Community Chest has provided.”
In addition to the $2,500 donated to The Parkwood Sharks, other recipients under Round 1 of the program include Pacific Pines State High School ($2,000), Walk With Us ($1,500) and the Oxenford / Coomera Community and Youth Centre ($1,000).
Nominations for Round 2 of the program are now open. Schools, sporting clubs and not for profit organisations can apply for the program up until Monday 8thOctober, 2018. Click here to nominate now!
